about our members
Our members consist of a unique alliance made up of long term care and designated assisted living facilities operating in the public, private and volunary sectors throughout the province of Alberta. Long term care centres operate under the Nursing Homes Act, the Hospitals Act, and Standards established by the provincial government and the regional health authorities.
Our members provide accommodations and care to more than 10,000 of the province's 14,500 long term care residents. ACCA members employ over 15,000 Albertans who provide "hands-on" care at the bedside in member facilities. Our members' care staff, both professional and non-professional, deliver more than 17.1 million hours of resident care per year.

a unique alliance
ACCA members own and operate long term facilities across Alberta. Our members represent an alliance of about 30 service organizations providing care to over 10,000 clients, or almost three out of every four Albertans in continuing care facilities today, and to seniors in the community. This alliance of private, voluntary and public sector facilities is unique in Canada.
There are approximately 14,500 long term care beds in Alberta. ACCA members own and operate over 10,200 beds:
- Private: 4424 beds
- Voluntary: 3695 beds
- Public: 1901 beds
The remaining beds who are not members of ACCA are owned and operated primarily by Health Regions.
